Hello everyone,

I'm right now in the process of applying for a schooling grant in pursuit of my dream of one day becoming a chef, and eventually opening up my own establishment.

I came to this forum looking for some input, and help with a questionnaire I'm working on for my application. Basically, it's about what life is like in the industry. I'd love some input from anyone who has time to help me out. Feel free to drop me a post, PM, or even an email at minuteaaa@shaw.ca

Look forward to hearing back

I put up a poll for curiosity's sake! lol

Thanks for reading :)

Without a doubt

I can't imagine myself doing anything else. I can't sit for more than an hour, I can't do just one or two things at a time without wanting to poke my eyes out from boredom, and most other careers won't allow you the certain freedoms we get

There's also a pride factor that's hard to explain. Someone back me up here

After high school I went to college for computer engineering, and soon learned I couldn't bare sitting still and stare at code all day long.

I've worked many occupations, but can say only through cooking have I left a job feeling like I put in an honest day of hard work. Feels even better after an awesome service or receiving positive feedback from customers, even if it's trickled in from a server.

So I'm with ya Shootoo.

If I had the chance to go back in time, the only thing I would of done differently is start my career at a much younger age.

if your are looking for input on what life is like in this industry.  read the posts on this website for 30 min a day.  from this you will get so much info on what life is like in the kitchen.  i started cooking before the Internet and  the learning curve was what you got from your work, talking to other cooks at other places,  books and eating out.  now with the Internet and this site the world of cooking is at your fingertips.  but don't forget to work hard, stay fit, buy good shoes, and show up to work on time.
