Need a simple strawberry frosting for kids' party

My granddaughter wants a cake with strawberry frosting for her birthday.  Do you know a simple recipe for strawberry frosting that doesn't use artificial flavors?  We discarded the cordon rose strawberry silken buttercream or whatever it's called  (Cake Bible) because it's so complicated, and there will be lots of other things to do.

I thought that mixing whipped cream and strawberry jam might work, but it;s not that stable to bring a few blocks to the place where the party will be (it will all be carried on foot, no cars).

What about something based on italian meringue?  or cream cheese?

Any ideas?

Hi there,

I have made a few different strawberry flavored frostings.

I make my own strawberry compote and have added it to buttercream, cream cheese and whipped cream frosting.  When using whipped cream I use a stabilizer to keep better consistency.

If you still need something let me know and I can always shoot you a couple recipes

Thanks Missy D.  We had seen the recipe for strawberry compote in the Cake Bible and it seemed a bit much in terms of work for a kids party, where we'll be running around baking things at the last minute.  But maybe yours is easier.  I thought that while cooking them a minute, draining, boiling down the syrup, throwing them in again, cooking a minute, draining again, boiling down again, was excessive for the purpose, maybe just boiling and pureeing would work.  Or?  sure it would be great to have a recipe - one that kids would like.

thanks

I love that some people out there still make the kids bday cakes at home!

IMO so important and will leave a lifetime of memories to build upon.

Sometimes I need something fast and really chocolaty (our guilty pleasure) to top cupcakes (the grands love to make cupcakes when they come for an afternoon play date).

I reach for butter, powdered sugar and some form of meltable chocolate.

Room temp butter, add powdered sugar until it is to your consistency point.

Whip in melted and cooled chocolate and a splash of vanilla, check for seasoning and there you go!

Sometimes when it is just us girls, we use strawberry jam from the jar (thinned over low heat and cooled).

Simple, yummy and....PINK!!!

Thanks Petals, that does look good, easy and quick!

Flipflop, what, on a forum like this do people not make their own birthday cakes?  They're the most fun of anything!

To make it simple - cut up fresh strawberries & put them in a pot with some sugar, small amount of water and a little bit of vanilla.  Simmer until the pieces become soft.  Cool and add a few good spoonfuls to the frosting of your choice.

pastrycake - let me know how that turns out.  i make some pretty good Guinness cupcakes w/ bailey's buttercream this weekend.   licklips.gif

You are right Siduri!

I had retired from "the business" and was only doing family stuff (gifts!).

Got drug into doing ONE MORE bday cake (but she is JUST LIKE FAMILY!) for someones little princess and not looking forward to the experience.

Yes, I made a living doing this once but was always one heartbeat from suggesting they make just one cake for one bday.....

Even if it was just a cake mix and canned icing and decos from a craft store.

Off my soapbox, lol.
