Those baked mussels don't look half bad either...and the icy's. They have the same in PR and it's called Piragua. So good on a nice hot day.

Shave Ice (NOT shaved ice) at Matsumoto’s in Haleiwa Oahu,

Oh My GAWD!!

DH had his with just a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the bottom, me I go for the Azuki beans and ice cream, original “rainbow” flavors, small please.  That is THE BEST after a day at the beach, surfing, MAN!

The sushi that we had was at Genki’s real close to where we use to live.  That place is the bomb-diggity!  Unfortunately, they are no longer BYOB.  What's sushi without a beer?  drinkbeer.gif

No photos but I can elaborate. Spam is cut 1/2"x1/2"x3", dipped in tempura batter and deep fried. Seaweed salad is red dulse and wakame soaked for 5 minutes in cold water, drained, gently squeezed and dried, then tossed in a dressing of sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, and gomasio; along with finely julienned daikon, English cucumber, and carrot. For the spinach, toss baby spinach in a screaming hot pan, remove from heat, splash with Shaoxing, golden balsamic, palm sugar, and toasted sesame seeds. Hollandaise is standard with togarishi mixed in.

I think that I'm going to have to try this braddah layne, I never heard of golden balsamic, but I'll look for it.

It is also known as white balsamic, but no big if you can't get it, just sub apple cider and up up the sugar a bit.

Thanks, K-girl for the information, pictures and instructions! You certainly uphold this site's reputation for being helpful and instructive, which is what I like so much about being a member of the CT community. I'm glad you're a part of it!

I'm... ummm...gonna study this and...well...maybe think about it and...aahhh...think about it some more...make some discreet inquiries to be sure my wife won't leave me...and ...well, I'll let you know!

MikeLM, aren’t you just the sweetest thing.

Thank you, Mahalo, for the wonderful thoughts sent my way, really appreciate that.  I have long held the thought that food people are sharing and giving folk.  Therefore, our desire to feed people.

In Hawaii, when you walk into someone’s home, you will always hear, “Come inside, sit down, eat, get plenty braddah/sista!” <insert pidgin’ accent here>

There’s always food, good food, simply, but good and loads of it.

A pot of rice, some fish that Papa just brought in from his day of fishing, some leftover beef stew on the stove, Grandma’s vegetables fresh from the backyard…

STOP!  You’re goin’ make me cry!
