I used to be a paramedic ... and I was an emergency medical specialist in the NAVY ... that all is just like being a doctor ... now take off your clothes and get up on the table.

Sour-Cherry Gin Slings

SOUR-CHERRY SYRUP

1 pound sour cherries, stemmed

3/4 cup sugar

1 cup water

Strips of zest from 1/2 lemon

Strips of zest from 1/2 orange

GIN SLING

2 cups gin

2/3 cup Cointreau

2/3 cup fresh lime juice

2 1/4 cups sour-cherry syrup

Angostura bitters

Ice

Sparkling water

Lime wheels and fresh cherries, for garnish

MAKE THE GIN SLINGS: In a large saucepan, combine the cherries with the sugar, water and citrus zests and bring to a boil. Cover and simmer over low heat for 40 minutes. Pass the mixture through a fine strainer, pressing on the solids; you should have 2 1/2 cups. Let cool.

In a pitcher, combine the gin with the Cointreau, lime juice, sour-cherry syrup and a few dashes of bitters and stir well. Pour into ice-filled glasses and top each drink with sparkling water. Garnish with the lime wheels and fresh cherries and serve.

Petals, that cake looks divine, what kind is it?

That cake is called  Stollen ( yeast bread with fruits ), enrobed in icing sugar . It's  a cake/bread I make about 4 times a year.  There are different types as well, this one does not have marzipan in the middle.

Traditionally it is made around the holiday time, but  with any good thing , why reserve good things for just ' once in awhile ' , life is too short .

ps. the tea is divine, you should smell the aroma in my living room, made a big pot.

Sorry FF: we are not going to highjack this great thread.

Is it possible that those ice pops are actually transparent?  is there a way to make juice (or even water) freeze without bubbles and come transparent like that???

Another Sangria fan - with strawberries.  When you get to the bottom of the pitcher, put the wine-soaked berries on a slice of pound cake topped with whipped cream.  Sgroppino is another favorite.
