Pastachef,
although I'm not familiar with it, know that Gold Leaf is the traditional decoration for Biryani Rice, so probably you can also find it in some shops of Indian specialties...

Thanks for the exciting ideas

I ordered a pasta catalogue and found black pasta. Also, my vendor says she can order it. Now I am going on a search for the gold. Thank you so much for the ideas. New things always make my job interesting. I loved the black dinner story!

using gold leaf

Hi,

I used gold leaf to decorate a souflee in a competition. ( We won!). The first leaf disappeared as I tried to pick it up. To solve the problem, we cut leaves from crystalised angelica and stuck them down on the gold leaf. Worked a treat.

Beautiful idea

That sounds beautiful, Dave. It must have been quite a presentation.

PASTACHEF -- souflee

Yes it did look good. It was a lemon souflee and we called it Souflee Baron Phillipe de Rothschild. The competition was to create a menu to go with wines from the Cellars Baron Phillipe. Maybe the flattery worked?

Fascinating thread this, all about naturally black food.

There was one on blue food recently, that's a bit more difficult, but what great ideas in the black one!

If your friend ever needs to make all white food, tell him to just get a Norwegian cookbook. Scandanavians don't eat anything unless it's white. :lol:
