Not to long ago I started a thread about going into semi retierment. Stepped down from my ex chef position but am hanging out a couple days a week cooking and just enjoying myself. I also own, with managing partners 3 other places but dont do any day to day work there, just watch over and count the money at the end of the month and enjoy my family time at home. Well now Ive gone and done it. About 3 weeks ago the school where my 11 and 14 year old approached me about doing the food for their school lunches and daycare program. Instead of saying nawww, Im retired, I said hmmmm, let me think about that. Well never being one to not jump into the abyss, I now have the contract for 900 lunches a day starting at in August. Financially it a fair deal for all parties. Now Im going to spend my summer incorporating a new company, drawing up menus, 3 options daily plus a salad buffet, hiring staff and hageling with venders. Oh, plus Im going to help revamp and upgrade the kitchen. So much for a summer of sitting in my yard watching the sun set into the ocean. Have I lost my mind? Can old cooks like me ever retire or do I just get to die at the end of my shift when I turn 100?
