I was wondering if anyone had any useable advice on how to get into the pastry arts side without having to get a pastry/baking degree. I already have an AAS in Culinary Arts and am going back to school in the Fall for my bachelors in Business. If it isn't obvious, I don't want to go back to school to get another degree in pastry/baking because I can't afford it. At the time there were no schools offering this degree plan anyway and I figured that at least i'd have a well-rounded experience getting a culinary arts degree. It seems that even though I have experience working pantry where i've baked desserts, baked breads,  made sauces, ice creams, etc. no one takes me seriously because I don't have a degree in baking/ pastry arts. I've applied to everywhere I can think of locally to get the experience and going back to the pantry station to focus on nothing but desserts isn't a possibility at work anymore. 

 

Does anyone have any advice or can anyone point me in a direction I perhaps haven't thought about yet? Thanks in advance.
