I'm a 23 year old kitchen manager living and working in Chicago. I'd like to say I'm a chef, but my job mostly consists of all the managerial aspects of a kitchen (ordering, inventory, costing, scheduling, leading, expo, cooking) as opposed to being a creative chef. My biggest reason for wanting to join this forum is...I've been out of the loop for a long time. I haven't read any food blogs, or kept up with the industry, and every day I'm forgetting more and more than I learned in culinary school, which I attended 5 years ago (graduated in the beginning of 2010).
Hopefully this forum is full of active professionals who I can talk to about the industry. Most/all of my good friends work in other industries, and outside of cooking at home every now and then, I just feel like I'm stagnating. I don't know where to start to begin to learn again, so I decided to start here. Usually when I'm really interested in something and want to learn, I join a forum and I learn more than I could have anywhere else. I'm sure this is the place to be!
