How's it going everybody my names Ben just wanted to introduce myself on the forums.  I am currently enrolled at the Bunker Hill Community College Culinary Arts Associates Degree program and thought this forum would be a good place to get some advice on how to break into the field.

Aloha, Welcome Ben to Chef Talk.

A culinary student, huh?  That’s great!  I hope that you’ve already checked out that forum.  Are you almost finished with your studies?  Last question, I promise, what direction do you want to go in with your chosen profession?  That’s something that I would have liked to have done when I was young, but cooking at home for my family is a rewarding feeling too.

Please take a moment to review the FAQ, Tutorials and Community Guidelines and if you have any questions in regards to Chef Talk’s website, please post those in the Feedback & Suggestion forum.

I think that you’ll find that we’re a friendly bunch; ready to share whatever knowledge we have.  Join in the discussions, or start a thread of your own.  You might want to utilize the search bar at the top of the page, loads of topics have been around plenty over the last 10+ years.

Mostly, enjoy and best of luck in your studies.

Thank you for the welcome, I am not that far along in my studies yet because I had to take some extra math and english courses because I didn't do to good on the placement tests.  This upcoming semester I begin my kitchen courses.  I posted a question in the general culinary forum but thought maybe it would be more appropriate to ask it here.

I am currently a line a cook at a small Italian restaurant which does not seem to be a very good fit for me.  This would be my second time trying to work in a restaurant kitchen and I am starting to get very frustrated because I am not picking up on everything I need to know fast enough.  I have a non verbal learning disability and some anxiety issues which can make working in a high pressure environment like a kitchen very difficult for me.  I want to continue pursuing Culinary because cooking is something I love to do but I'm wondering if there is another avenue in the field that would be a better fit for someone like me.
