I want to make corn Tortillas

but I can't buy Masa easily where I am but some of the African shops sell Hominy.

So my question is can I grind up Hominy to make Masa?


I think I understand they are made in a similar process but I don't know for sure.

Can anyone help?

depending on where you "look" masa is "made from fresh hominy" or "dried and reconstituted"


hominy is corn kernels treated with lye - basically a chemicalized wet form of "popcorn" - but hominy is the base ingredient of masa so mashing it up (if wet) or grinding it fine (if dry) should work just fine -


note to OP:  never tried it myself.... I can only "get" canned hominy - never seen it 'dry' - but things vary.
