My Obsession Is Perpetuated

That’s right, my apron collection has been added to by my chef-y friend from Chef Talk, Durangojo or Joey.  She knows how much I adore aprons and wear them every day.

Along our month long adventure through the West, DH and I stopped in to visit with Joey.  She had made mention to me a few months back that she had been going through some of her things and found two aprons that she wanted to give to me.

Little did I know that those two aprons were worn by her Mother and Grandmother.

I feel so honored to now be the caretaker of these treasured heirlooms.

Mahalo, thank you Joey.

That is SO cool!!

I don't go for aprons myself, but I did see a cute one the other day - "Your opinion was not in the recipe"

Fwiw, both aprons were hand sewn by my grandmother....aside from being an incredible baker (as in people would come from very far away for her italian cookies and pastries),she was also an incredible seamstress as well (as in she made men's suits, exquisite tablecloths and sheets kind of seamstress). the apron for my mother was probably made extra cute in order to get my mother to work in their bakery and italian groceria. as a young woman coming up my mother had no interest in being out of the limelight or stuck behind a counter......my grandmother's apron otoh was made completely for utilitarian purposes... aka baking....it truly makes my heart glad to know that these are now passed along to someone who will appreciate, care for and use them. Wear them well kgirl.

boy, what i wouldn't give for one of my nana's cannoli's right about now....

... Made Italian last night, steak pizzaiola wearing nana's apron, I think she was guiding my hand Joey, only because this time it tasted so much better than any time before

My version of Steak Pizzaiola or Carne alla pizzaiola, with anchovy fillets 'melted' in to the sauce and adding back in the sauteed garlic cloves

MAN!

I totally forgot to post this pic, not the best,

but, I LOVE this apron!

This is from Crooked Brook, the same apron that was desinged for Sara Moulton.

I have wanted this apron since seeing her on her TV program WAY back,

when cooking shows actually taught you a thing or two.
