Hello from a hobbyist in California!

Hi all, my name is Alan and enjoy cooking as a hobby. My wife and I have an agreement: if a dish has 4 items or less, or comes out of a package then she cooks it; if it has more than 4 items, then I cook it! :thumb:

 

I'm retired from the semiconductor industry where I worked as a CAD Support engineer for the last 15 years or so of my 35 year career, and I've always enjoyed watching cooking shows, and trying recipes that looked good. One of the first shows I recall really enjoying was Justin Wilson - he was a showman! I also like Emeril's shows, but haven't watched them lately. I especially enjoy cooking desserts for my wife - she's a diabetic so I use Splenda in place of sugar, but she still gets to eat small quantities of chocolate and such when I go crazy - Nanaimo Bars are one of my favorites, as well as rhubarb pie using rhubarb from my garden!

 

Anyway, I hope to learn a lot here, and I'm looking forward to seeing some great discussions, recipes, etc.

Yup, I’d say that we are pretty friendly bunch.  It amazes me how generous the members are with their knowledge of all things food.  I was doing to same as you about two years ago, searching the `net for an answer to a cooking dilemma, and here I am.  I would have to say though I am a died-in-the-wool-foodie from way back before there was such a word, HA!

Take a lookey-loo around; do keep in mind thought at the Pro forums are read only for us folk who are not employed in the food industries.
