Chefs negotioating relocation...calling my hotel Chefs!

I have been a hotel chef since my apprenticeship, but I have stayed in the same state. Now I am being offered a top job in an out of state hotel. I have never negotiate relocation before, and I know I could learn something from others who have been here before! Thoughts?

Never did that either but don't see why you can't just ask outright if they have already offered you the job. Is it a deal breaker if they don't or are you moving anyway? If moving anyway and you have the job, just ask if they offer any relocation reimbursement. Doesn't sound like you have anything to lose and seems like a fair question.

Agreed, I find it hard to believe they'd be impressed enough to offer you, an out of stater a top position,

and not be willing (and prepared) to help you with relocation.

But, that doesn't mean they're gonna mention it first.

"I'm not in a great position to handle an out of state move on my own right now, would you be willing to help with that?"

...or words to similar effect.

Thanks for the replies, I am staying with my current company, they just want me to relocate out of state. Everything I have read on negotiating relocation focuses on new companies, but I'm going to use the same negotiation tactics.

In this particular case, I would anticipate they are willing to relocate you.

Oh, I took it the offer was from another company.

I promise I don't misconstrue often. Sorry, my bad. :o

Good luck with it!
