My landlord at my old house bought a new oven that had a broiling/warming drawer at the bottom. We just bought a house and the oven that came with it has the same design (http://www.frigidaire.com/products/Kitchen/gas-electric-ranges/FFGF3049LS.aspx).
The flame is basically open to the drawer to allow for broiling down there, but the problem that I've experienced with both of these ovens is that the drawer is not insulated very well and thus the front of the oven gets very hot to the point of getting burnt if you're not careful.
I don't understand the design of these types of ovens and how they can be considered safe. Furthermore, the drawer design is touted as a desirable feature. I don't get it.
