Any chefs out there ever feel like this -_-

Thread Starter

So my contract at my last job ended and i felt it was time to take my leave.

It´s been 2 weeks and im soooo bored , i thought taking a break would be nice , but now i feel horrible. Feeling so crummy that im contemplating going after a new job and start working before Christmas. Its horrible i know , i was suppose to take a break but if i dont cook i get bored so easily and start getting extremely lazy.

So who else can´t stand staying away from work for so long , even during days off i always find some way to read a cook book , contribute to the forums , read the news about food etc....

I love to cook , and if i don´t cook during a dinner rush i get so bored <_<.

Some people get sick because of too much work , i feel sick when i don´t <_< , call the doctor its time to take me to the Crazy House.

hi kaiquekuisine :)

I totally feel for you!! warm fuzzies on the way!

am in kinda same situation although bit different.

stopped working nov 6th at old place because I needed to move house and needed time for scheduling all those things.

ok I thought it would be nice not to work for a week or so.

WRONG.

after THREE DAYS I started to feel restless no matter how busy I was with schoolwork and moving house....

its now 25th and now am in new place in a chaos, and in 2 days have to start at the new job place (its fab...).

have noticed too that I miss the kitchen environment, just BEING there would have been enough, and working my partie.

what you mention about reading I totally confirm.....although thats something I always do.....read cookbooks and stuff.

so I wrote some recipes to keep the mind off other things.

so what you are experiencing is not weird .......oh wait......for NORMAL people it IS weird but for cooks like us......WELL.

we are trained to work under pressure and it gives us a kinda fix, you know, adrenalin rush.

so when you stop working and take a break, its best to keep your days filled but with DIFFERENT things that make you normally relax.

when you are used to the adrenalin rush you sorta need to wean off it ....

when you're bored, how are you spending your days then? is there nothing that would nicely fill your days and is interesting enough to avoid getting bored? hanging around is nothing for us cooks...... ;)

Consider yourself "at home"

I always remember a line from the movie "Sister Act" when Whoppie Goldberg is telling a young girl that if the only thing she thinks about when she goes to bed at night and when she wakes up in the morning is singing then that's what she's supposed to do.

Same for you and cooking.

No!

You are perfectly fine. Now go out there and do what you do so well.
