I think if you wanna used canned goods or anything that's not scratch that's just fine and sometimes even more challenging.

I grew up using what you had on hand or could afford, and that's what a lot of people still do today.  But.... at the same time.. I swear i just saw her Deep-fry some onions and poor oil and all into the sauce.. and that just kinda cringed my stomach.

She may not be the best cook in the world.. but shes sharing what she enjoys doing and maybe with some help full comments on her video she will learn from mistakes and grow from them.

I have nothing against good canned tomato sauce/puree/chunks etc. During tomato off season it is better tasting than the cardboard things they pass off as tomatoes in the grocery store.

Absolutely. If you look around, you can usually find canned San Marzano's - beats the "fresh" off-season stuff. Still got some home-canned ones - and hopefully, I will expand my tomato operatiion next year far enough so that the home-canned last all winter. Just negotiated rent for space for a new greenhouse with the neighbour :)

I have no problem with the cans but to me the way she sold the video was a slap in the face.

I found she didnt give the respect those ingredients deserved.

- dehydrated pulverzied garlic... and onion (why not use fresh)

- The way she washed that basil and just fried it....

- The use of oil and basically burning the ingredients

I have nothing over using canned tomato sauce, but to me if you are going to call it "Marie´s Homemade Italian Tomato Sauce" , thats what i expect to see. Not saying she should have used fresh tomatoes, but fresh garlic, onion, kept the basil in a better state , used some fresh herbs, and not thrown in a cup and a half of oil...

I would have prefered watching Rachel Ray´s 30 minute meals....

Its just my opinion that this lady could have done a better job. My mother was a decent home cook, we were poor when  was young, we ate a lot of cup noodles and chef boiardes , my mother used canned tomato sauce, just like many other mothers , but the end result of what my mother did with the tomatoe sauce and that womens tomato sauce are polar oppisites.
