For me it was wheni had just been 2 weeks out from one job i went to the next.

I went to do a food manipulationa nd higiene class , run by one of my chefs who decided to invite me. I went and most of the other people didnt even bother attending or flaed last minute.

As the class ended , the restaurant owner ( the lass was at a reputable restaurant ) starting talking to me.

After 10 minutes he invited me to stage during the weekend cuz he needed another set of hands.

Was hired , i lasted 2 months and quit , realized why they had so many flaky cooks soon and quick too lol.

So lets hear it , any interesting or uncooman ways you have ever got a job.

Today i also have a job ( justa one time gig ) to work a bit in front of the house for an event , always gotta network . :D

in october, I finally got news that I could rent a home in a city that I had been trying for 4 years.

then a friend of mine sent me an email message.

gosh, if you got a home in that city, no coincidence, because one of my friends' twitter, is an ad for a restaurant cook job.

I registered on twitter and had a look, and replied to the ad.

was invited to send email with personal details.

so, sent email, the next day when I showed up at my last job, phone went and chef picked up.

when he hung up he told me that I would be invited for a job interview.

and indeed, with few minutes I got an message and that weekend I went for the interview.

totally calm….. and …..had a great interview!

chef and me really clicked, and he told me if it was just him, he would hire me on the spot but had to consult the owner.

I left, to my job and did not expect anything...

but believe it or not, that SAME night, I got an message that they wanted to HIRE me right away.

no trial even…..

that was a month ago, and working three weeks there now…..every day its a WOW moment, a step up from my last spot and totally happy.

so much to learn…….they really know how it should be, all boxes checked : communication, haccp, teamwork….and a great chef to boot.

loving every day…long days (12 hours) but …..much easier!!!

thanks to social media.

When we moved from the USA to Sweden in 2005 I was planning on taking a year or so off and just relaxing and learning Swedish. The family came in june and I spent an extrs couple months in the states finishing up business, selling the house, business, getting things shipped overseas, yada yada yada. So, I fly in on a monday, sleep and catchup from the jetlag. Tuesday morning my daughter is going to school here for the first time so we walk her there, get introduced, settle her and now its 9am so we proceed to walk into the center of town for 2nd breakfast. We're strolling and I see a restaurant getting some food delievered and comment to my wife how nice it is to jyst watch instead of checking it in and signing for it. My wife reconises the person signing as an old school mate. She and her hubby own the restaurant. Oh, your a chef, Let me get my husband. English only? No problem, we all speak english, what are you doing thursday night? The weekend? Want to work? Ok 2pm thursday? Bring ideas for some specials. So Im in country 24 hours and taking a year off, nope, started cooking on thursday. No rest for the wicked.
