Culinary School Scholarship? Anyone actually gotten one?

I'm looking into scholarships for culinary school, and there seems to be a handful of them available. But have you or anyone you know ever gotten one? I have yet to meet anyone who's received a scholarship of any real value, so I'm not sure they're worth applying to.

My first chef actually got a 1 year scholarship for LCBs sommelier program in London. Along with a 3 month scholarship in Paris i believe.

I was also gonna participate in a pastry contesthere in my country , winner gets 1 year culinary scholashrip in LCB Sydney , in Australia.

I quit because it was too complicated and the contract had some clauses i didnt want to get involved in.

I have also seen a few J&W scholaship programs along with CIA but they are like a 1 in a million chance because many people compete for those , and or have special needs higher then yours.

Note my chef also got free housing.

Aside from that i have heard of culinary schools like ICC that have scholarships that are given to those who present an essay on life goals and dream for the industry.

3 or 4 years ago a friend of mine ( we arent friends anymore ) got a full scholarship to the CIA in hyde park , didnt know how , but he didnt pay a cent from his pocket.

So yeh , scholarships for culinary schools exist , even for the non-famous ones. Are they difficult to get? Somewhat...

The chances arent that high and it really depends on grades , necessity , and in some cases culinary skill.

But get in contact with the schools you are interested in attending and ask about potential scholarships programs.

They are there to be of use to you , so send them an e-mail and try to get in contact with past alumni who have gotten scholarships.

I received the one I applied for - it was only $1500 but not complaining as I am grateful for any amount to help out with my tuition

Most schools offer merit scholarships to students with good GPAs at the time of acceptance. Last year I got 8000 from Johnson and Wales, and I received one last April that I applied for. It wasn't huge at $4000, but I use it to pay for housing and of course I was grateful to get it. I always apply for scholarships - it doesn't take long and the insignificant ones do add up!

Thanks everyone. Is there a resource online of scholarships to apply for? Would be awesome if there was a big list somewhere. If there isn't, maybe I'll compile one myself,

Thanks so much.  Been really busy this semester havent had time to be online much at all.

As for scholarships i know there is quite a large list online for the US - I was researching before I started school in April.  Unfortunately they weren't applicable to me (I'm Canadian) so I didn't bookmark the site.  I was able to find it quite easily through google search engine.

Good luck

I won a $4000 scholarship competition for culinary school and also got to meet the chefs before i had classes with them and learned the rules of the kitchen before stepping in for my first day of class. depending on what school you're going to i would highly recommend the competition that i was in. it is held annually.

Best of Luck!
