I have a mass of Bonito Flakes here.  Does anyone have a good use for it besides throwing it on the coals?

I've not heard of a use for it. Feed it to a pet maybe?

I put bointo flakes in broth/soup base to add flavor. It's commonly used in Japanese cuisine.

Do you use them a second time to make a nibani dashi? You can also steep them in rice wine vinegar for a flavored vinegar. Mix them with hatcho miso, natto, daikon leaves, hot mustard, and toasted nori and use as a garnish for brown rice.
