Hello from Arkansas learning to cook

Thread Starter

I'm not sure if anyone actually reads these intro posts or not but here I am. 36yo male just learning to cook. Yeah that is sad but I just never saw the need. So, now I am single and starving! Thought checking in here would give me a better idea of what is going on in the food world.

I have tried my hand at my own tomato sauce for pasta and they have all been ok but just not that great. I am hoping with a little reading here I can figure out a good sauce. Mine have been either too fruity tart or too sweet AND tart. I just used Hunt's canned plum tomatoes so maybe that is my error.

Olive oil to cover the bottom of the pan

half a diced onion

teaspoon and a half of minced garlic from a jar

dried basil and parsley

red pepper flakes,

28oz can of tomatoes

I have made it enough times I am sick to death of my lousy spaghetti.

I do make a mean bowl of Top Ramen with a little soy sauce and siracha, sometimes with an egg boiled along. Now that is fancy! Need to eat a little more healthy than that though.

Really wanting to learn how to make some beer cheddar soup or green chicken enchiladas.

@BigKev77 Aloha, Welcome to Chef Talk.

Yes, someone does read these posts, actually several people do  :)

Your sauce recipe sounds fundimentaly right, maybe try a different canned tomato, like san marzanos?  delish!

Anyways, you might want to utilize the search bar at the top of the page to find the plentiful threads on that topic or any other one that you find interest in.  Keep an eye on the post dates though, CT has been around for over 13 years now.

I'm sure that you've already reviewed the FAQ and Community Guidelines; if you have questions in regards to the site itself, you can post those in the Feedback & Suggestion forum.

Speaking of the forums, the Professional Food Service forums are read only for us folk not employed in the biz.

So long story short, hope that you'll visit often and particpate in the conversation.
