well, seeing as tomatoes are evil LOL :), maybe it's some type of exorcism device HA HA HA !!. honestly I don't know, it might be to add some flavor or to kick them up a bit.

I've never eaten at Taco Bell so i don't really know. But if you are tasting citrus it is most probably lime juice. It's used a lot in Mexican food.

I don't think Taco Bell would invest in fresh limes to that extent, Jock; I don't think their culinary sensibilities run to that level! Maybe they soak the tomatoes in a citric acid-laced bath or other produce preservative to keep them "fresh". I bet if you tell them you want to know because of allergies, they might tell you what the taste is from.

With the amount of salt in their food, I steer clear of TB (oy, vey- I mean "Taco Bell") . But that wasn't your question, was it? ;)

I doubt TB's suppliers have EVER even shipped a fresh lime. Let alone teach the high school kids what to do with one......

Lime would be the citrus. And as far as Taco Bell goes...the rumor is that they actually don't cook any of the food, but rather reconstitute pre-packaged food products with warm water and applying the appropriate microwave energy. This has to be the reason I get ill after eating the occassional TB. It can't possibly be all that alcohol that suddenly makes TB sound sooo good.

The only thing I ever liked about TB was the dog and its advertising . Jo quierro Taco Bell . Neat add but scarry food .
