Container for sourdough starter

Thread Starter

Greetings:

Is there any reason that a wide mouth, 1 qt, mason jar could not be used to contain homemade sourdough starter.  I plan to make some in the near future and know full well that the lid should be loose to avoid bursting all over the kitchen.

Best and I'm a foodie.   I know very little but the little that I know I want to know very well.

That will hold it easily. I use a 4 fl oz jar, its fine. You dont need too much starter to ferment a whole batch, that stuff multiplies quickly

I should have also stated, the little jar is what I use to store my starter in the fridge, so I dont have to feed it so often. When I first made it a few years ago, I just used a small metal bowl loosely covered with plastic wrap.
