How to thicken frosting without adding sugar

Thread Starter

I don't care for buttercream frosting so I searched and found a cream-cheese recipe I liked here:

http://www.yummly.com/recipe/external/Coconut_cream-Cheese-Frosting-Allrecipes

However I found this recipe too sweet so I wanted to use less sugar.  About 3 cups instead of the 4 in the recipe tasted pretty good, but the result was a pretty thin, soft frosting.  I want to make it more firm/thick but don't want to add any more sugar.  I tried adding marscapone, and it tasted fine, but did not really thicken it much.

Can someone give me some ideas how to thicken this frosting without adding more sugar?

Thanks!

Skip the butter would help a bit.

I'll try it.  Thanks.

Try this. What I do is follow the recipe, which of course makes it super sweet. But then you can add lemon juice, which is practically flavorless and makes the frosting a lot less sweeter.
Hope this helped!smile.gif
