Experience before graduation

Thread Starter

Hello folks. It's been a while since I've posted. As some of you know I started culinary school in 2013 and will be graduating in the fall of 2014. I am really needing to gain some experience to go along with my degree. I have worked as a prep cook but this job was seasonal. I have been applying to other places since but getting discouraged because I am not getting  any interviews. I applied to the Disney culinary program but received a rejection letter.....WOW! I am starting to get nervous......just a little. I really would like to be marketable and I know that a degree alone will not do that. Please...any advice will be greatly appreciated.

A well organized resume and a cover letter explaining what your aspirations are and what you have to offer to an employer goes a long way. If yo'reu being very persistent and are still having no luck then you could always write a letter to businesses asking for an apprenticeship. Explain how badly you want to gain experience and learn and that you are willing to work free for two-three days a week. Keep applying for jobs. Not only think about restaurants but also higher end grocery stores (I work for whole foods and we do ALOT of prep), food carts, etc. etc. Good luck!
