Just a mom cooking for the family

Hi, I'm a 50-year old wife and mother of two almost out-of-the-house children. I work part-time from home, so I have a reasonable amount of time to cook and do so most days of the week. I found this website while looking for information about buying new knives. Even though the things I do make turn out pretty good, I know that I'm lacking in certain areas. I'm hoping to learn more about basic techniques, like knife skills and sharpening. We live in a high elevation area, about 5,500 ft., and I know that affects a lot of things. I doubt that I have much to offer in the way of answering any questions here, but I do know that I will learn a lot by reading what other people have experience with.

I'm with you, nobody else gets me... You do what? You cook food? It's like speaking a different language.
