You can do lots of things with Excel, but you can also create so many errors with Excel. The up front work to create the calculations, and the ripple effect from a bad calculation is enormous. And even with pre-coded spreadsheets are you looking at the possibility of major errors.
Here’s a great post I read on the CostGuard Food Costing blog that talks about it. In fact it was so compelling that I ended up buying CostGuard and once I entered all my inventory and recipe data I realized how much less complicated it was than creating my own Excel sheet, or buying one that I could have messed up.
