Did I get scammed? (molcajete)

Hi guys I'm brand new here, lately I have been cooking up a storm. I bought this molcajete to perfect my salsa. The lady at the local flea market swore it was real lava rock with no cement. Been seasoning it for two days with no success it's still powdery and a little gritty, it stinks like sulfur when I grind on it. I'm starting to think this is a cement basalt mix fake.

I have no opinion on it being stone or concrete. But a past thread might be helpful to you figuring it out.

Thank you admin for the reply. I saw that thread before I posted it and my molcajete doesn't look like any of those. On that thread ones considered real a very dark molcajete the other one fake a obvious concrete molcajete. Mine on the other hand appears to be half real half fake if that makes any sense hahaha.

Yours looks real to me. Especially if your getting the sulphur smell. It takes a long time to get these seasoned well. The main thing is to get the grit out of the pores. Rice with a little water is common here. It just sands the surface lightly. The best thing we've found is to use a power washer to remove any grit. If you come across some dried corn kernels they are also helpful to rid a bit of that sulphur smell. If you use it regularly it might take a couple of months to really get it seasoned. considering it will last a lifetime and more if you pass it along, a few weeks are minuscule. Happy grinding!

Thanks everyone that responded I made a salsa today and it came out delicious no grit. I think it will take a couple of months to get it 100% with zero powder or grit. You are right panini this molcajete should last me a lifetime it's a big one and heavy it weighs 40 pounds. Growing up watching my great grandma, grandma and mom make salsa with a molcajete it feels good to keep the tradition alive and strong.
