Long Time Lurker First Time Poster

Hello all!
I'm a 27 year old female line cook. I've been cooking off and on since my 1st job in the biz when I was 15. I currently work sauté and grill/broiler at a high end bar and grill in Idaho. This website has taught me so much. Being a woman in the kitchen is tough and I find a lot of great advice on here. There have been many a nights where I got much less sleep than desired due to reading forum after forum on here. In fact I should be sleeping right now. But when I saw a post about what women wear in the kitchen that was dominated by makeup brands and tips on how my peers look pretty in the kitchen I couldn't help but make an account and post my opinions on how a woman should present herself in a kitchen.

@Sonshine we're glad you decided to dive in and join the fray! We have a great many female cooks and chefs here, and have had some lively discussions over the years, too. I can imagine several of our members being as perturbed as you with the comments about makeup, when competence and skill should have been front and center.

 

As a former lurker I guess I needn't tell you about the articles, etc. and give you a tour! But I do want to be sure to point to the Cooking Challenges featured in the Food and Cooking general forum which change monthly. This month it's flour. The discussions are amazing because our members are. The past months' Challenges are archived and are quite interesting; they're also great sources of ideas.
