knife Set Recommendations

Thread Starter
I'm looking for recommendations for a knife set for home use in the $250-$300 range, preferably one with a block. They don't have to be top of the line, just good quality that will last a long time if well cared for. Any input on a set you have used/liked/hated would be appreciated

Dont buy 10-15 piece set because you dont need that many knives. Instead of that buy good quality chef knfe, bread knife, paring knife and honing steel.

I would recommend you Victorinox fibrox/rosewood,

Make the steel an Idahone fine ceramic. The typical 10-15pc knife set for 2-300 is going to be real crap.  As Dombe suggests a few Vics will do you well.  You can find beautiful vintage steak knife sets, lots of old new-stock, on ebay for short money if you think you need that.
