When you say shrimp scampi you have said shrimpshrimp

You see that a lfew times in the food world.  2 that always stand out for me is Chai Tea and "I'd like that with au jus."

And yet...if you ask a bunch of people about shrimp scampi and they all know it as the same dish, at some point doesn't it really mean that?

But a scampi style sauce is not bad on pasta...

I would be forever grateful if someone here could offer me a great fish supplier where I could get scampi. Not easy to find.

...agree with you, @Jellly. But... that doesn't necessarily make it right. We have to preserve some notion that terminology has to be (should be!) specific. How many times do you see tomato confit on menus? It isn't a confit! It isn't cooked in its own fat. Yes, it is being picky. Alas, without specific points of reference, terms will be watered down and we will lose direction. Mayhem. Ok, maybe that's an overstatement, but you know what I mean.
