Hi I'm new to baking. What recipes would you recommend for me to start out with and if anyone knows any tips or suggestions can you please let me know? Thanks!

Hi Cluelessbaker,

If you're truly "clueless", I recommend starting out by reading here. Browse through the Baking and Pastry general forum and see what topics grab your attention. If you're most in need of learning techniques (how to fold ingredients in a batter, for instance, or the best way to bake cheesecake without it cracking), look for threads that have those words in their titles. The search tool will help you locate those threads. Be sure to check how old the conversation is before you add to the thread, though, because if it's too old, you'll want to start a new thread. Some of the people may have moved on, or there may be more recent information on the topic. You can also check out our cooking articles here, as there are some on baking topics.

Of course, you're welcome to post threads of your own. I'd recommend focusing your topic specifically. Your question here was a bit too general. A better question might be something like, "Can anyone recommend a basic recipe for someone starting out baking a basic white cake?" Or, "Can you recommend a good cookbook for a beginning home baker?" Such specific questions will give you the best answers from the professionals and the other home cooks alike.

Please don't hesitate to ask me or the other moderators if you have further questions about making the most of Chef Talk. That's one of the things we're here for!

Good luck in your quest to become a better baker. We all started somewhere! I wasn't very skilled when I started her 15 years ago, but have a look at my photo gallery now, and you'll see how much the members here have helped and inspire me to be better at it.

Best regards,

Mezzaluna

Hi there Mezzaluna,

Thank you for your wonderful response. I really appreciate it. Yes i was looking for a good semi beginner recipe that I can possibly make. I have baked cakes some cupcakes and cookies but those are box bought from stores. I've never actually made anything from scratch. I want to try a good recipe of a cake or a pastry that I can make from scratch.

Once or twice a day I do go through some threads seeing new posts or any pics that i can see that include recipes that I can perhaps work on. And yes if i do have any questions or anything to ask i would love to ask you and get your response back. You're very kind and generous. Thank you very much!
