Has anyone ever heard of Ichiban knives?

My friend gave me a damascus Ichiban 180mm knife for my birthday but I can't find many reviews on them online to solidify their quality. It looks and feels like a great knife but obviously doesn't have that big of a reputation yet. Thanks!

You should be fine. They are sold by japanny.com who have a very serious collection of Western blades, with great brands. A Japanese knife brand doesn't always mean the same as in the Western world. You're not always sure there's a factory called BRAND, owned by Mr BRAND making only products under the name of BRAND.
That being said, nothing to worry about. Enjoy your knife, and get a few stones to maintain it properly.
