Why is french cusine So unpopular? and why does italian cuisine have more success Than french cuisine?
Welcome to Cheftalk. I see you are a home cook, as am I. Interesting first post.
I am an American, and don't find French cuisine unpopular. I enjoy many cuisines, including French - (Mexican being my least favorite - but that's my taste).
I've lived in New York City, and now in So. California. There are more restaurants, ethnic cuisines, & great restaurants than I can shake a stick at - so to speak.
The produce, wine, etc., etc., is outstanding here, as well. I could go on and on.
I save French restaurants for special occasions, as the menu is pricey, but certainly not unpopular. Years ago, I went to a French restaurant here in California, & the menu was entirely in French. I had to ask the waiter to translate the menu/dishes (as my HS French is pretty rusty). I didn't go back, as I like to know what I am ordering. Since then, there have been a few nice French restaurants around town - mostly featuring some French classic dishes, steak, salad & some classic(?) French desserts.
Would love it if you could/would share some of your favorites.
ETA: If you're ever in So California, USA, visit one of my favorite French restaurants, Le Petit Chateau. They've been around for about 50 years, and good-sized portions.
If you want to wet your whistle, you might check out the Napa Valley.
