scallops

Hi all,
I had some scallops in the fridge but one thing after another kept coming up and I forgot about them. Today (more than a full week later) I discovered them pushed to the back of the fridge.
They were watery but were not slimy or smelly. In fact they smelled like scallops, as fresh as the day I bought them.
My wife refuses to eat them now saying they're too old.
So, are they too old to eat?

If they were water or wet packed they are treated with a preservative. Dry are not. Cook 1 and taste it .

If  the fridge was real cold they should be alright.

The back of the fridge is the coldest part of the fridge.  They may be ok.

Read the ingredients - if they were packed in water and phosphate they are "wet".  I'm with Ed - try one and see, but when in doubt - throw it out.

Im with your wife. I'm not convinced that dangerous pathogens can always be tasted. Those scallops have seen better days.

I would not eat them. Too long and improper storage. Store shucked scallops in a zip lock bag on a bed of ice, replacing ice frequently as it melts, for 2-3 days max. Most home refrigerators operate around 40F and seafood stores best at 32F.
