Keeping homemade cereal bars together

Hi, virgin poster so be gentle!

I've been trying to granola bars lately, but while they taste nice they tend to break very easily. I tried putting more butter in the pan in the hope that that would help it to bind but it doesn't seem to have made a difference, any other tips?

Recipe I followed is to mix butter, honey and muscovado sugar in pan, then add oats, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds and fruit/peanuts.

its not the butter that is holding your mix together....its the sugar.

As the honey and sugar cook it caramelizes..... making more or less..."glue".

Try mixing the brown sugar and dry ingredients together....  Heat the butter and honey and pour it over the dry ingredients...and mix mix mix well....
