I love popcorn!! Growing up we had popcorn at least once a week, usually on Sunday night as we watched Disney. Back then we rarely topped our popcorn with butter. That's because we popped it in bacon grease (bacon grease was the oil of choice for just about everything back then) so it didn't need the added flavor. We also used to make caramel corn (or Cracker Jack as my grandfather called it) on a regular basis.
Nowadays, we usually make Kettle Corn instead of caramel corn, and drizzle our popcorn with butter as we don't keep much bacon fat in the house often, and usually I'm very happy with that. A regular, lazy day dinner in our house is often sandwiches and popcorn. Occasionally, I like to try to add seasonings and flavors to our popcorn, although I am always happy with plain, ole buttered popcorn. Parmesan, with various other seasonings, makes a regular showing as a topping, but the other week I found a new favorite-Spanish Smoked Paprika. I stirred a scant tablespoon of the spice into a stick of melted butter and drizzled that over the popcorn and it was fantastic!!! I'm thinking I might want to try adding some smoked paprika the next time I make kettle corn. Could be interesting. has anyone else tried smoked paprika on popcorn? I was wondering if any of you have an offbeat topping that you sometimes use on popcorn. I'd love to hear it as I'm always on the look out new ways to flavor my popcorn.
