do i need a culinary degree to become a chef?

I am going to a community college for network security because the culinary program for that college is not available at the campus in my home town. I rather be a chef but due to money issues, I can't attend the school I wanted to. Do I really need a degree to become a chef? I am creative and I have went to a vocational school for culinary arts so I am familiar with industry sanitation standards, equipment, and techniques. I have also made a variety of dishes of varying ethnic backgrounds. Advice as to what I should do? I am also employed part time at the local McDonald's

While you continue with college, get a part time job in a restaurant kitchen.

If after 3 months you find that you look forward to going to work, get a full time job in a restaurant kitchen while continuing with college.

If after another 3 months you find that you look forward to going to work, consider changing your major to business.

By the time you graduate, if you have continued to work full time in restaurant kitchens while going to school and still look forward to going work, then you will be well on your way to becoming a chef.
