HI from the Netherlands!

From Canada, I came to the Netherlands just over 2 years ago.  Not quite the most culinary of countries ;) but I hope to see that change in the future.  What I have seen is interesting, though (there tends to be more in the south, but I'm in the north).  

 

I have been baking for as long as I remember.  Been in and out of kitchens and my last job was chef assistant at a catering company.  My heart is in baking and I'm learning French baking in some spare time.  I also specialize in gluten-free.  My profile page says it all :)

 

I'm looking for help with technique, but also look forward to contributing :)

Friesland.  While beautiful, sometimes feels like the middle of nowhere ;)

Hehe.. you'd think.  I haven't tried for comparison yet!  I have adapted the 'friets saus' (mayo w/fries), but I haven't tried making any yet.  I had a small Cuisinart back in Canada which was perfect and I fear my larger mixer would be too.. roomy.

Yeah Friesland is beautiful, but quite remote.

Great if you like sailing though.

 

You will find a better variety of food in the middle and South of the country and some very good Indonesian in the Den Haag (The Hague) region.

 

Winter should be on its way. Make sure you try some erwtensoep, and a portion of bitterballen with mustard ain't bad either :)

Very remote, compared to the rest of the country.  

Loooove sailing.  

 

I make a pretty good erwtensoep!  I didn't think I'd like it (last I tried it was when I was a kid) but to be fair, this was a bit more.. gourmet :)

Bitterballen and mustard.  Got it :)

 

How long were you here?

Born and raised in the Netherlands.

Did all my schooling there as well, worked in NL for a number of years and then decided to see a bit more of the world and forgot to go back

lol @ "forgot to go back". I hope that's not an indication about where you lived. 

Instead, I presume (and hope) that life has been treating you well where you are. 

 

I'm finding it challenging finding a job here.  My Dutch is not yet fluent and living in Friesland is not helping matters.
