Key to good homemade funnel cake?

I am making funnel cake for a friends party and was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions to make this process run more smoothly. :)

Use a ring mold and hold it in the oil with tongs, make squigglies into the mold and it will hold its shape. Also use a pot with a flat bottom because if you try to use one of those fry daddy jobbies it'll go right through the bottom of the basket leaving you with a mess. Can prefer them then crisp in the oven later if you don't have time to do them at time of service
