Patina won't come off...

Hi Im new here,  so I'm not sure if this has been answered in a different thread. ( Im sure it has but i cant find it). Anyways, I just got a Korin Togiharu virgin carbon steel Gyuto. I tried to force patina using regular yellow mustard. Worked ok but I'm trying to get the patina off to redo it. I have tried baking soda and a blue  scotch-brite sponge. but nothings coming off. I am perplexed, Does the scrub pad have to be the green kind? I did notice in the package that the blue scrub pad is "Non-Scratching"  Could that be the issue? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Why don't you force a new patina over the old patina?

... Or start using it and let a natural patina supplement what you now have.

not sure why you want to re patina your knife. Use barkeepers friend. I would just maintain it after you remove the patina. Just keep it cleaned after use and sparsely oiled. If your wanting that patina, like Brian says, just let it happen naturally. If you want to force it again :thumb:I would use catsup mixed with coke.

Patina is a further oxidation form of carbon steel. If you really want to get rid of it you'll have to abrade a thin layer of steel. Steel wool, coarse ScotchBrite or automotive sandpaper on linen may be helpful, but stay away from the edge. I use 400 stone slurry to even it out without completely removing it. I do so after thinning.

I wouldn't do anything other than sticking the blade into a raw russet potato for a few days to allow chemistry to proceed, giving it a new patina.  Otherwise just use the d**n thing to allow time and nature to take over.  To further blacken the blade, checkout this article.

The Only reason I wanted to take the "old"patina off was because i put a design on it and didn't care to much for how it came out. Not a big deal. I did just added more over the old patina anyways. Not to bad.  I put a snazzy lil design just to see what would happen. Im cool with it. Ill just let nature take over from here. Thanks all for the suggestions.
