For a couple of years now I've been told that most of the canned pumpkin pie filling is actually made from a squash. Forget the name but it's like a butternut. Libby's is supposed to use this for most of it's filling.

Then almost every Thanksgiving I see that weather and other things have affected the pumpkin harvest and Libby says there might be a shortage. (excuse to raise the prices). Libby always show regular pumpkins like we all know in pictures associated with the announcements.

So which is it. Do they use real pumpkins or a squash?
