Reuben – Famous sandwich with pastrami

Our proposition – simple homemade Reuben  

Reuben may be prepared and served in a complex way and baked in different restaurant appliances. However, here is a recipe for a simple homemade sandwich, provided that you have a toaster or a frying pan.


  • rye bread
  • pastrami
  • Swiss cheese
  • Sauerkraut
  • Russian sauce

Pastrami ideal for serving is the one which has already been steamed over very hot or even boiling water in a tightly covered pot. This way we get warm and crumble meat which is literally melting in your mouth. We cut it in very thin slices. We toast two slices of bread. Then cover with the other bread slice and Voilà! We can enjoy a perfect Reuben sandwich.

Looks good to me, I love pastrami. The seasonings you have on your pastrami look great and cover nicely. I would always grill the bread....Great job!

I make classic Reubens with that list of ingredients and they are perfect.  In fact I loath corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's Day so I make Reubens instead.

Delicious!!!! My husband like to cook it himself. One of my favorites from his cooking list with great balance of flavors. Caraway lends just killer flavor.....:crazy:
