Lunar New Year coming up

For all of Asia, this is when we have new year celebrations.  It's much more food centric than than the end of december.

 

Watchu guys making ?

 

I got some lotus root

Nice lotus root! I've only had it once in hot pot.

 

Making dumplings/wontons for sure, and likely gonna buy some sweet Tangyuan (sticky rice balls w/sweet filling). Everything else is up to whimsy/energy levels.

Made a fish fumet from haddock head and bones

 

 

Here's my snow day lotus root soup: lotus roots, yu choy, shiitake mushrooms, puff tofu, haddock chunks, chili oil

This is legit new years now.  My mom made bánh chưng

 

Sticky rice, mung bean, fatty pork, fish sauce, wrapped in a banana leaf and steamed

quahogs - fermented black bean, cracked black pepper, ginger, garlic, cilantro, rice wine vinegar, local butter

 

 

The leftover sauce I used for fried rice

You can't have new years without fruit, especially citrus
