I went thru the outside of the mixer with official parts manual and exploded drawings as reference and discovered that the pin that secures the planetary sub-assembly to the planetary shaft is a tapered pin and was installed backwards.  And so I purchased a pack of 5 replacement pins from the local Hobart service center in Jacksonville.  The new replacement pin was installed correctly and in a matter of just a few seconds.  Whew.  I'm glad that I caught the mis-installation or otherwise the planetary housing could have been cracked and ruined under the heavy usage and stress that it can be subjected to.

I recommend getting your Hobart parts from a local factory service center as they're way way way cheaper on the S&H than ordering from the Hobart factory itself.

Best and I'm a foodie.   I know very little but the little that I know I want to know very well.

Very smart to look it over so closely before breaking it in.

Hopefully whoever you bought this machine from didn't ruin something (like you described) by running with this problem.

I politely notified him of the "bump" but would still give him a positive feedback as the mixer is/was a great deal.
