Great looking entries folks!! Two more days left!!! OK. I know it's late but it's been a hectic month. Anyway, I thought I'd
at least post one entry : Pan Roasted Pork with Grilled Bok Choy and Blue Cheese Mash.
Pork Chop : $3.35
Bok Choy : $0.78
Potato : $0.60
Blue Cheese : $1.92
Apple : $0.80
Scallions : $1.67
Total : $9.12
Balsamic Vinegar & Maple syrup for the glaze
About 2 tablespoons of butter for both the potatoes and apple.
Bay leaves, Pepper corns, Coriander seed, Parsley for the reduced stock and sauce.
Garlic Powder for the mash
Cumin for the marinade
So I deboned the pork and roasted it. Added pantry items to make a stock/ sauce. Reduced and replaced the water 3 times.
Marinated the pork in soy sauce, pepper, cumin, a squirt of fish sauce, water, and scallions.
Reduced balsamic vinegar, salt, and about a tablespoon of maple syrup for the bok choy glaze. Yeah, I probably should have priced that. . .
I pan seared the chop pork fat rendered from the bone. Finished in the oven and rested. Threw in a tad of butter and apples and deglazed the pan with a the reduced stock for a sauce. Used potato water instead of dairy for the mash.
I should also say that I asked the guy at the store to cut the blue cheese in half. I also cheated because I used a shot of brandy for the pork before finishing in the oven, which would bring my total to $10.62. I'm the moderator, I'm allowed to cheat.
It's a good old american massive portion size, as I only ate about half the chop and 3/4 of the mash.
