Hello all,

I'm Ali, 26 years old, living in London, UK. I'm not really a forum person but I decided to become a part of this seemingly great community to be among more likeminded individuals who, not only have a passion for everything food but also a talent for it. Im 26yrs old (late starter), barely embarking on what I hope to be a lifelong career and connection to the industry. I'm incredibly studious and I'm currently aiming to soak up as much as I can from anybody that's willing to teach.

Any chefs or wherever you are in the kitchen hierarchy that are willing to share some of your stories on how you got your foot in the door of a professional kitchen (or just your culinary career in general) would be massively appreciated.

Feel free to recommend anything for a novice to check out on this forum.

Hope everybody is having an amazing summer. I look forward to the intellectual exchange.

Hello Ali and welcome!!

The forum is great and full of great professionals and great cooks overall.

Hope your journey is filled with prosperity.

As for getting your foot into the industry, how about starting to stage, handing out some resumes and working/staging part time in quaint and casual places that put out good food, to at least get some experience. Staging will permit that you wor int he industry, with the people and chefs as well as getting some experience to build your reputation.

I also believe staging is great because there is a trade of work for experience, you work and you will learn.

Its a win win situation for both employer and stage.

Are you studying in any type of school or formal program?Maybe start looking into sme courses be them long term courses or short term.

Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.

I'm currently a KP and just today secured myself a commis position at one of jamie olivers Italian places. I've thought long and hard about taking the culinary school route but..knowing how I learn and retain info I'm seeking 1st hand experience. But some essential courses wouldnt go amiss. I'll definitely be looking in to a few. Thank you for your welcome.
