No Scrooge here.

We will be closing early on Christmas eve and and will be closed Christmas Day. I took the entire week off and am visiting family. My restaurant is my business, but my family and the families of my employees come first at the Holidays. Never forget: THEY ARE REASON WE DO WHAT WE DO! Work will be there tomorrow and the next day and so forth, but Christmas come but once a year.
Seasons' Greeting to all. May the new year bring you peace and prosperity.

If your boss makes you work on the Holidays, look me up and I'll chew them out for you!

*Pre-planning. Don't expect to get important days off if you ask three hours beforehand.

*Be firm. Explain that your family is your priority and you have obligations to them. I never request time off. I generally inform my co-workers and boss that I will be taking a certain day off (if I have vacation or sick or personal time coming to me). I make sure to do this in plenty of time so as not to cause a headache by my absence.

*Never confuse your life with your job. Work obsession should not be treated as a positive attribute.
