I bought a Fagor Duo 8-qt pressure cooker about 3-4 years ago, and I've never been entirely happy with it. Now the valve has started leaking, and the gasket still smells slightly of rubber.

I went to Amazon, and found that to replace the gasket, valve, and handle will cost about $45.

If I get a new Presto 8-qt cooker instead, it'll cost $53.

Has anyone got any experience with these that might help me decide which is the better bet?

I've got a 10qt Fagor Duo and have had great luck with it for the last 10 years.

If I were to do it again and had the $$$, I'd get a Kuhn RIkon. I use the PC for making stocks and glaces; Dave Arnold ran a bunch of blind tests (documented at the dormant Cooking Issues blog) that determined the KR made significantly better quality stock. This is because its valve lets zero steam escape if you regulate the temperature well.

If stock making isn't your thing, I don't know if the KR's higher price would be worth it. But they are very high quality.
