In Belgium, it's the father's day in a few weeks. For this special occasion, I would like to prepare a dish for my dad but I'm not a professional cooking chef and moreover, he has complicated tastes. Indeed, he hates spicy food and he only eats the ingredients he already knows. So, I would like to surprise him with a delicious meal made with basic ingredients. Do you have some suggestions?

Sally,

To really help you out we need to know a little more about what his likes and dislikes are.  You say that he only eats the ingredients he already knows, but if we aren't familiar with those it makes it kind of tough to make suggestions?  Does he like seafood?  Is he a "meat and potatoes" kind of guy?  Does he like vegetables?  What is the venue for this meal?  In the USA Father's Day is traditionally a day for cooking on the grill and eating outside.  Will the meal be more informal like that or something a little more formal?

This dish is pretty easy. You can serve it with a nice salad and crunchy Baguette bread. Just sauté some shrimp in garlic and butter and olive oil. take the linguine pasta from the water and thrown into the shrimp pan mixture blending with the butter and oil. Toss in some chopped parsley at the end.

Yes! I would eat that! /img/vbsmilies/smilies/licklips.gif Have you met its cousin Lobster Scampi - lobster tails and linguine bathed in buttuh, garlic lemon juice, and parsley, with grilled garlic bread...

Or surf and turf - steak, lobster tails, baked potato with sour cream and chives... chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert. Simple and delish.

Another idea. Depending of what's seasonal/available in your area... A Seafood boil/Low Country Boil/Frogmore stew... seafood of choice, corn, sausage, potatoes, and beer, wine or Sangria. /img/vbsmilies/smilies/drinkbeer.gifWatermelon on the side. If the weather is nice, eat outdoors. with a nice tablecloth, or spread out some newspapers, i.e.

If you have a grill.

How about some chocolate-dipped waffles and strawberries or fresh fruit for breakfast.

Happy Fathers Day.
