Following up on discussion from vegetarian thread...if soy products contain GMOs (and I am naive on the subject)..is there any talk about labeling them as such?

As an aside, I read today since the consumption of soy milk has gone up so much the dairy industry is wanting the soy milk manufacturers to not use milk in their product labeling.

Yes. I'll post more later but essentially the monkey is always on the organic farmer to prove his stuff doesn't have it....amazing how the big guys control the gov't and the policies....it's a $$$$ thing and they play the game well.

A federal court in Bruno, Saskatchewan, Canada, has upheld a complaint by a big bio-tech company against a small farmer.

Multinational chemical giant Monsanto was suing farmer Percy Schmeiser for growing its genetically-modified canola without a licence. In its ruling the court found that Percy "infringed on a number of claims under the patent" granted to Montsanto, and further infringed on the patent by reselling the seeds harvested later. It said some of the remedies the company seeks should be granted.

Monsanto says it owns the plants since it owns the patent on their altered genes. It says farmers must pay each time they use seeds containing the genes or destroy their crop.

Schmeiser admits the canola was growing on his 1,400-acre farm, but says the seeds blew over from a neighbour's farm or from passing seed trucks. And he says he has the right to replant his seeds without paying anyone for them again and again.

The most well known is probably corn. Your morning Corn Flakes, for example, may be from genetically modified corn. Kellogg refuses to confirm and will not label. Your only option as far as they are concerned is to flush it from your cupboard if you don't feel comfortable with it.

If you consume taco shells, read the label or call the company to try to find out.

Another example is canola.

Don't know about the US but here, in Canada, we have to beware of tomatoes as well.

I try to stay on the "organic" side of things.

One huge american culprit is ADM. SHAME ON THEM!!!

What reeks is the research is done by companies that will benefit financially....what is also stinky is that there is a revolving door in the FDA and chem companies.....
It gets worse, the more I found out the more incredulous and angry I became....not only does it affect family small farmers but it affects our food supply....
Again small farmers are ecking out a living and don't have time and $$ to do the PR that the big companies are doing....lobbiests cost bucks.
***On the positive front I heard from the Mo dept of Ag today that several corn farmers are going organic, a buyer wants 25,000 acres of organic corn...apparently the meat issues are a weird blessing in big disguise, I don't understand why there isn't more prevention than after the fact bandaging.

I'm also not a GMO supporter,
This topic must be constantly under discussion, to keep the conccept of using as much natural food products as [economically] possible.

Me wonders whether this 'Mad cow disease' originates from excessive hormones and GMO food in the animals diet ???
